Has anyone replaced the air intake on a 6.5 and just put a K & N on the cdr valve hose? The rubber 90 has swollen and the cdr hose will not stay in it. Will it hurt anything to put a K & N on this?

...on here have done exactly that, not neccessasaryly a kn but a filter of some kind...gm says to change cdr @ 60k miles.but I have found if you keep your oil and air clean they'll run longer than that...cdr has a valve inside that turbo pulls open to vent crankcase fumes back to burn...on a hi milage unit it just makes them smokey...jd

Mine has 225,000 miles on it. It is original motor, 1996. If the cdr connection hose is not connected to turbo will this affect crankcase? Just trying to get all the miles out of it I can before I put new motor in. Thanks.

If it is not connected it will spray oil all over the engine, unless the engine is in good condition. Engines before 1970 dumped the crankcase fumes through a tube to the under side of the engine, you can do the same, just block the hole to the turbo so not to suck dust in.

The motor seems to be in good shape. I add about a quart of oil between changes. I put a k & n in the connector hose. Will it keep oil in check? Or should I run a tube down?
I also replaced the rubber ell with an aluminum one and a 45 degree one. Now the air filter sits on the fenderwell. Looks good.

The breathers were open on the old engines, only need to put a tube down to get rid of the oil vapour.
