Can you hear the lift pump run when you turn the key on? If so crack open the bleeder valve on top of the fuel filter to see that you are getting fuel to the filter. You can also remove the fuel relay and run a jumper wire diagonally, kitty corner, which would also activate the lift pump. If you got fuel to the filter, the lift pump should be ok. When the truck is running crack open the wif petcock at the front of the engine. If the engine remains running the lift pump should be ok. If it stalls you could possibly have a bad oil pressure sending unit. You need oil pressure, at least 4psi to supply power to the lift pump when the truck is running. The lift pump only has to supply , I think 3psi to the injector pump to run properly. My 2 cents worth. I am not a mechanic.

The dim dash lights indicate an electrical problem, mine ran fine without a lift pump except on hard acceleration. Check the ground on the fire wall. You could also have a failing ignition switch.
