Excessive noise

I have a 94 GMC 2500 Suburban with 213K on the 6.5TD. Recently it started making excessive noise after running for a short time. At first it was thought to be a lifter, but after listening to to noise it is to loud and the pitch is to high. I listened to the lifter noise thru a broom handle a they all sound the same. When the noise kicks in it is so loud it can be heard by a vehicle three car lengths behind. There does not seem to be a noticible loss of power and sometimes if the engine is reved up it will go away for a brief time but starts up again. Any insight would be appreciated.

I met a guy last summer with a 6.5 and we got talking and he was telling me that something similar happened to him and it turned out to be that one of his glow plugs broke off and was in the piston camber . he said that he didnt do any thing about it he just let bang around and it eventually broke up into small enough pieaces and when away , now I am no expert and I am not sure if that is even possible but you may want to check your glow plugs to see if any are broken good luck

Is it a really high pitched tick? I have heard exhaust leaks on big trucks sound like that but they usually go away after everything heats and swells up.

injectors? mine made a high pitched tick and knock noise when they went bad
