that you have to pay for 6 new tires! but my experiences with buying cheap tires has been decent. . i have Wild Trac- Radial LTR 265/75/16, it they have about 17,000 miles on them and about half tread, i drive the hell out of this truck, they have taken on many gravel roads, lots of mud pits, and alot of burnouts. . .they last decent, look meaty, and get decent traction. i use this truck as my trailer hauler, logging truck, firewood getter, service truck, and personal fun and mud truck. . these tires have held up on old deep muddy logging roads, and the sidewalls are super tough. the traction could be better but i only paid $160 per tire which was way cheap at the time. :)

I have a set of 8-ply 285/75/R16 Dean Wildcat All-Terrains that I paid $500 for new. They get good traction on the road and decent off. They have about 50-60k on them and still have good tread. When I get another set I'll probably go down to 265/75's though.
Only got stuck once with them, but it was right after a snow melted and the truck sat in the pasture for about an hour and sank to the hog's head. Funny story, called my buddy down in his V10 F-350 CC/LB 4WD, he got stuck too. Had to get out the old GMC K-15 (before I rebuilt the motor) with its cracked block and heads to pull us both out.

what is the largest tire that will fit on the back of a dually? 265? 245?

245 and 265's are too wide for a dually without spacers... go with a 235/85/16, they are the same height of a 265 (approx 32"-32.5") and about 9.5 wide... i miss my 235's, they had better traction in the mud, and gave me better mileage than the 265's.

if i go to the 85's from 75's how much will that change the speedo and can it be recalibrated to read the correct speed

well if your running 245/75/16's right now it will only be about 2mph off, if your running 225/75/15 like some dually's do, you'll be about 5 mph off. . . according to my personal experience. . .we went from 225/75/16's to the 235/85's on the 98 dually at the ranch. . .and as long as my spedo is right it it about 5 off. . .
basic rule of thumb on a 16" rim: conversions are approximate---
225/75=29" x 8.5-9ish"
235/85=32" x 9.5"
245/75=31-31.4"x 10"
265/75=32" x 10.5"
285/75=33" x 11.5"
305/75=33" x 12.5"
315/75=35" x 12.5"

Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. 245/75/16 10 ply. Lots of hard launches, and trailer pullin for my truck. awsome looking, get great traction, and after 20k, they are still over 1/2 tread. Snow and ice traction is is awsome because of extra siping slits, and the mud terrain lugs make them bite hard in any condition. On my 85 gasser plow truck im running 265/75/16 Mastercraft Courser CT 10 ply and are extreamly pleased. withe the plow on, and about 50 psi, they get amazing traction. Never added weight when plowing snow. Cant seem to get more than 20k outta a set though, probly cause they are a bit to wide for my stock rims. Little bit of weight and they bite great in the mud. and they clean out good.. Friend of mine runs hem on a 2wd dually, and he loves them. Warehouse Tire in Norwalk will give ya a 40k prorated warranty on the CT's. No warrany anywhere else on CT's or Good year. Circle H tire in Tiffin was the cheapest on my good years at the time.
