ive seen rear diffs on tractor trailers get over a hundred degrees but thats fully laoded with 80k have you checked the fluid or changed it recently? it should be changed once a year and checked with every oil change in my opinion. how hot is it getting?

i would say over 100 deg. its warm to the touch. just changed fluid in fall and rebuilt last summer. its not HOT just warm.

maybe pull the cover and inspect but if your working the truck hard i would expect it to get warm there is friction in there and that's why the gear oil is so thick as long as its not hot, leaking fluid, or making noise i wouldn't worry much
