Just checked my milage on fill-up today. a crappy 13.28. Ive got a 3 1/2" straight piped exhaust, marine injectors, instant heat plugs, new FSD heat-sync, SSD air intake...so what gives? 13 miles to the gallon is what i got before any of the upgrades??? I guess i wont care after i start pumpin out the bio-diesel but untill i get it up to the bigger quantities i guess im gonna eat it in the shorts:( Kinda disapointing, but my truck is awesome so... im stuck:):o

Mine didn't go up either. I get around 17 mpg. But I figure it's because it sounds and feels good when I push the throttle. You did get a noticable power increase right?

after i put the new injectors in on the first drive i felt more power. Now i guess im used to it, because i dont really feel it anymore. The last full tank i did my very best to keep the RPMs at or under 2000 all the time. I only remember a couple full of times it went to 2200 but no higher. What more can i do??

It has got to be thet damn ULSD fuel. My suburban was getting 17 mixed and 21 on highway before the change. I also run 3.42 gearing and tall tires. Now with new fuel, I just drove to Florida and back, got no better than 18. Plus I don't think the marine injectors are going to do much at all w/o computer upgrade to go with it.

I my be off but the best way to get better mileage would be a sit of 3.42,I have 4.56s and mileage sucks I get high 14s with my 1993 2500 4X4.

With those 305/70 16 tires unless you re calibrated your speedometer your odometer will be way off. Your miles traveled will come up short and make your milage look poor. Next time you are in the highway run ten miles on the mile markers and compare it to the odometer. With those tires you might only put 8.5 miles on the odometer. Also this new ULSD (ultra low sulpher diesel)will not give you the milage that the old LSD (low sulpher diesel).

the new diesel blows! what junk

not to hijack the thread but is there any way to put an additive in ULSD to make more like LSD?

Lucas Fuel Treatment says it totally neutralizes the harmful effects of low sulfur diesel fuel.

its dark now but i think the code shows 3.73. I have a local station that is still selling LSD, or atleast they dont have the lables that the other place has. (USLD price today was 2.91 and the unlabled 2.99. Ill have to check the odometer next time i see a marker.
This is an additive for the ULSD Fuel.

On my Florida trip I showed 93 miles to 100. I run 285/75R16's. So I add 7% when figuring milage. Can Speedo be calibrated on tech two or is there another way. I heard on 6.5 the 4L80 is separate from engine computer so using scanner won't do it. Is that true? If so how to do it?

One of the things that sulphur in diesel fuel did, thanks to organic chemistry, was to make the long-chain carbon molecules that comprise diesel fuel "slide" past each other more easily. This is the "lubricity" that helps to minimize wear to the IP and injectors.
The bad thing about sulphur in any fuel, is that the by-product of combustion is Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) gas, which combines with atmospheric water (rain) to form H2SO4 (Sulphuric Acid) or acid rain. Very bad.
So why do we get worse fuel milage with ULSD? The process that removes the sulphur from diesel fuel has to "break" the long-chain molecules in order to free the sulphur. The longer the carbon chain, the more energy is released during combustion, this is why diesel (cetane) has more energy in it that gasoline (octane) for the same volume of fuel. The removal of sulphur reduces the energy content of diesel approximately 6% on average. Less energy content equates to 1-2 mpg less fuel milage.
The aftermarket fuel additives, whether the Stanadyne that Walt offers, or something that you buy at the Truckstop, that "neutralizes the harmful effects of ULSD" do NOTHING to increase fuel energy or milage, and they do not add sulphur back into the fuel. They are LUBRICANT additive packages to increase the lubricity of the ULSD to help prevent accelerated wear to the IP and injectors of older engines.
As a side note, BioDiesel has inherently high lubricity compared to dino-diesel, and it is COMPLETELY SULPHUR FREE and Enviro-friendly! ULSD is not sulphur free, it can't be over 15 ppm (parts per million), old LSD was 500.

on the good side, i just increased my batch size to 12 liters or 3.17 us gallons and im now using "used vegi oil" so my cost per gallon is about $1.37. Ive made 2 batches at this size. the next step it to step it up a notch to 30 gallons at a wack!!
It has two good outcomes, Gives me a hobby to tinker on and saves money. At that price i could care less what my milage is!!:)

Hay VIOLATOR Try this www.philter.com/cgi-bin/drac.pl When you get there click on the tables and that should walk you through the re calibration process. My son did it on his 91 V1500 Burb and the speedometer is dead nuts on the money Hope this helps!!

Thanks Sixnickel. Where do I find the unit to set the pins on my 99 Burb if you know?

That web site should tell you where the the unit is. It's behind the glove box under the ECM. Also if your unit only has 7 not 14 jumpers just use the last 7 numbers of the 14 and you should be all set. I have not done it but rumor has it if you go to Radio Shack and buy part#11911989 7 position dip switch you can solder it into the board and just set the dip switchs to the code. Just like you would do if you replaced the speedo or tach in your big rigs.
