Alright fellas. I have an intermittent issue when I brake. My truck will sometimes make a voompf noise two or three times when I brake. I had the brakes professionally checked out and they were given the all clear. It almost feels like a hesitation when I engage the brakes. I can usually feel it coming on before it happens. Any ideas?

Did they check for ABS codes?

Do they feel like the fronts grab then release and seem like when you keep applying pressure that it feels like it's stopping on the rears only then the fronts either grab or cycle on-off? If so, check your power steering fluid level. If it's too low you will get air bubbles running through the hydro-boost unit until the fluid warms up and expands. It also screws with the ABS until the air is all ran out.

There is a good diagnosis for ABS codes, "google" obd1 brake codes, click the first one "pulling Chevy truck obd1 brake codes information" tells you how to get the codes with a paper clip and what they mean, and how not to screw up the abs system. I used it on mine, the comment don't do it if the abs light is off, means don't do it if it hasn't come on at some time.

Thanks I'll try that Grancito. I would like to do whatever I can myself( just got a quote to fix my A/C-$990 for the evap coil job!) to save some cash!

...you have a bad or failing accumulator on the boost unit...all "they" check on brakes is parts that can be replaced, pads, rotors, etc. if your pedal doesn't pulsate under normal application but, your pedal travel has increased or shortened, you could have a sticking booster...delayed or agressive application ie:you push pedal, noise you hear is delayed response caused by accumulator...it's a weird one but I'vee seen it...jd
