Power steering pump problem

A couple weeks ago my power steering (and power brakes) stopped working. The mechanic put a new power steering pump on and everything worked great for about 10 days. It went out again while I was backing a trailer uphill a short distance so I could around. The trailer only had about 2600 lbs. total. I probably had the wheel turned all the way or close to all the way, if that means anything. I thought maybe a hose came loose but the power steering fluid was full. The mechanic says the new pump needs to be replaced and now I'm waiting on one to get here tomorrow.

Any thoughts, suggestions, advice will be appreciated.

The pumps have been known to break shafts and stop pumping but still keep the belt roughly in line.
