AFAIK
The only difference is if it has a single mass or dual mass flywheel.
The single mass flywheel has torsion springs in the clutch disc.
The dual mass flywheel does not.
The friction material can vary a lot though from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I am sure they are asking those year splits due to the 92-95 having an external slave cylinder, and a seperate throwout bearing, and the 96- newer has the internal slave, with the throwout bearing mounted directly to the slave.
92-95 also had a trans to bellhousing pattern unique to GM. 96- newer shared a universal pattern with Dodge.
as far as differences, what are there? there were some top cover changes, but other than different top covers, they should look the same.
2wd will look different than 4wd of course, but I doubt that is what you mean.
make sure and use the right oil, NV4500s are picky. Amsoil has an application just for the NV4500. GM is twice as much or more, but it is 12346190 for the part number.
racer is correct, the single mass or dual mass is the biggie. I have yet to find reliable info on which trucks got either during what year, so I am not much help there!
