I'm not an auto guy. My rig has a Turbo 400 in it right now, I know its a great transmission and all but I Have a friend who's converting his k5 blazer to a divorced transfer case. So he had an sm465 mated to an NP205. Now he swaped in a 4x2 sm465 and divorced 205. So the 4x4 trans and tcase is just sitting in his back yard looking for a new home. It needs a clutch and some love.
Has anybody swapped auto's for manuals before? I have the 6.2 so its all mechanical no computers to deal with. I have the bell housing and everything, all ready to go, I just don't know if my fly wheel will bolt up to the clutch.

The flywheel from the 400 auto is a flexplate, you will need a flywheel for a 6.2.

Um... What?
I have a 6.2, Are you saying i need a flywheel from a 6.2 with a manual? Whats a flex plate?

Yes you will need a flywheel from a 6.2 that had a manual trans. A flex plate is like a flywheel but the clutch and pressure plate will not bolt to it.

Ok, the flex plate appears to be the same as the flex plate ive seen on 350's, since they share the same bell housing will a manual sbc flywheel work? for that matter a bbc or a 6.5?

I see the difference now. This makes sense, The flywheel for the 6.2 6.5 is 139 teeth. Autozone sells them for $50. Ill have to buy a new clutch, fork, cylinders and hose.
I heard that the gas bell housing is different then the diesel. Something about the starter nose not fitting in. If this is the case is this a problem that can be solved by a little bit of grinding?
I'm definitely a fan of the extra drive shaft length ill pick up in the back and the 6.6:1 granny low first gear for crawling.

Can i get a gasser flywheel and replace the 168tooth ring gear with the 139 tooth ring gear, I looked up parts online and i found the ring gear for the auto/manual/gas/diesel all have an internal diameter of 13.268. It might be much easier for me to find a gasser clutch setup and just swap the ring gear. Is this possible?

Why? Is there a difference in the spacing? What exactly is the problem with that?

The NV4500 is a 5 speed.
The New Allison 1000 is 6 speed with 2 overdrives.
What exactly are you looking for? I started this thread looking to go the other way, From an automatic to a manual. There's another thread on mating an allison 1000 to a 6.5 I think it stopped at us not being able to find the standalone controller for it. Actually one company said it as still under development.

I got myself a used flywheel from a 6.5 and a clutch.
I got a muncie sm-465 4 speed and np205 Transfer case.
I got all the clutch linkage (mechanical linkage) and fork and spring and a new throwout bearing.
My jeep has pedals for a mechanical clutch linkage (which is kinda weird because it has a column shifter) So I need to mount the z-bar so I can run the mechanical linkage. It should be fun, I'm going to start pulling out the old trans and putting in the new one soon, Pictures to follow.
