I just replaced my thermostat this weekend with a 180* thermostat. I pulled the old one out and as it looked more like one of the stats from the dual stat crossover then the single, however, it had 160 stamped on the back. Where the hell did this thing come from? Isn't 160 way too low for the 6.5? It will never get up to operating temp, right?

I just though this was weird.

Seems I remember reading (years ago) that a diesel doesn't burn fuel well until around 175. Whether I am remembering that quote correctly or not 160 is way too low for any engine (except maybe propane). I know some of the tuner chips for gas engines came w/ a 160 thermo to trick the computer into running "rich" all the time since the motor never got to operating temp.
