Yes, diesel fuel caps are different. Only use a diesel cap on your truck.

Diesel caps are vented, gas caps are sealed. I have been using a Harley Sportster cap that I modified for more venting when I was racing the Sportster.
A non vented cap will cause a vacuum in the tank, a very bad thing.

Is there a good locking diesel fuel cap?

I took my locking fuel cap and drilled about eight to ten very small (5/16") holes in the cap being careful not to leave any of the debris in the cap/tank. This took care of my vacuum problem and gave me the security of a lock.

I'm finding out that a lot of people didn't know the difference between the gas and diesel fuel caps!!!

I've found that there are a lot of people that work at repair shops and parts stores that don't know a lot about anything! But, even worse some people think that they know.
I've been known to say, I know a lot, but I don't know it all.
