Ok so I'm going to have to put a new clutch in my truck and I know that there is a DMF in there now and I am going to switch to a SMF setup. I know that I am going to stay away from the LUK setup and check into the other brands out there thats not a problem. What I really want to know is where to find a flywhell and if anybody knows what the GM P/N is for the damper that goes on the back of the tranny for 4x4 models? I do have a NV4500.

Have you by chance been in touch with your local dealer,I did a conversion a few years back and they had the complete kit. If I remember right it wasn't that pricey considering in came with the clutch, flywheel, release and pilot bearings.

Does anybody have any experiance with Southbend clutche's? They have a whole kit that includes the flywheel. I have to check into it some more.

My buddy has a 1996 F-350 Powerstroke and the truck he bought had some problems. When he bought it they said it had a rebuilt trans. and new clutch. He developed a leak at the trans. and a noise. No big deal. We pull the trans. and the pilot bearing is wasted and he notices it has a SMF instead of the dual mass it is supposed to. So we change the pilot and release bearing and put it back together. When he got it he noticed the trans. had a small leak. When you get on his truck it has a wierd vibration. He has put about 7,000 miles on it since and the trans. leak has gotten a lot worse. He works at a dealership and they work on Peterbuilts and Kenworth and stuff like that. And after talking to a lot of the guys on the heavy duty side they tell him to put the dual mass back in because they were made to dampen vibrations from the diesel engine to the drivetrain. Maybe the pilot bearing wasn't replaced or was damaged when the trans. was put back in by whoever rebuilt it and maybe the leak got worse just because they didn't seal it right. I just think they spent a lot of R&D for a reason and GM isn't the only one to use the dual mass flywheel.

Why do the conversion? I have replaced my clutch and just left the DMF in. It seems the conversion only cost extra money. Just make sure you change it early. I talked to a couple of the shops around here and they all said the DMF is fine if you change the clutch before you start heating or glazing the flywheel. Otherwise, you'll need a new DMF (And two years ago that was about $600~700, the same as most of the kits I saw).

I'm trying to swap my 6.2 and the flywheel i have is hitting the disc that i got from the guy I bought it from.
Here are some part numbers you might be interested in:
Flywheel 12556799
Cluch Kit 12475568
I cant find the part number for the disc i am looking for, If anybody knows what i need please let me know. I posted the problem in another thread. This is amazing that a standard transmission is so rare and hard to find parts for.
I still think that buying a 139tooth ring gear and putting it on a standard Gas SBC flywheel is your best option. Is it possible to put a new gear on the starter to use a standard SBC flywheel?

My truck has smf and the disc has dual set of springs. So if you have a smf already, just get the dual spring disc. My understanding is that the pulses of the low rmp torq is hard on the drivetrain and the dmf or the dual springed disc dampens the pounding.
