Ok, I have noticed several posts about increasing the turbo sound and engine cooling.
I just had a functional cowl induction hood installed. I could hear the turbo before (SS007 intake, 3" downtube and 4" exhaust) but now it is quite a bit more "in your face". Sort of the difference between "cool" and "WAHOOOO". I also notice the engine seems to be running maybe 5 degrees or better cooler since giving the hot underhood air somewhere to go (might be my imagination, or another justification point for the wife). I also noticed a big dry spot where that hot air hits the windshield during a little sprinkle the other day.
The main thing? The early 90's "6.5 Diesel Turbo" decals that they used to run down the hood creases look really good on either side of the cowl.

Cool job!

Does anybody know if the 6.5 badges that go in the hood creases are available anywhere, and if they'll fit in a '95 1500 hood? Would be soooo killer............

Where did you get the decals?

I have a 1994 with those cool decals on the hood. I always thought it would be nice to put one on the tailgate:rolleyes:

I had searched for them for a while online but apparently the decals are a dealer item. My local dealer had to hunt for them, but got them in just a couple of days (and they aren't known for their parts house prowess). The decals weren't cheap at nearly $30 bucks each but....
I think maybe they were only put on the trucks in the early 90's. First ones I saw were on a 94 'burb I think.
I don't know what (maybe all) year models used the same hoods. I believe the same hood is used from about '87 to '00. Nice thing about trucks used to be that they didn't make major body changes very often.

Deerefanatic:
I know they will fit your 95. I had a 3/4 ton and the hoods are identical.

Update: I just searched for them on ebay and found this:

sorry for the long link.

Hey there, try searching for LMC trucks. (it might be LMCtruck.com) or similar. I can't find my catalog right now, but they have all kinds of stuff for the GM trucks, including decals

Hey guys another thing that looks real sharp is the 6.5LTurbo Diesel emblems part # ssd-013 that Walt sells. I have them on my K3500 on the doors right over the 3500 emblems and on the tailgate right lower corner. They look factory!!!

Sixnickel,

I was looking at that badge, but thought the decals would cost less. I will check out the badge again. I noticed they are New Old Stock and may want to get them while I can.

How does your new hood fit? You know, fit and finnish...and did you get the steel one?

Yes, steel hood. Fit is just as good as the factory. Of course, the body man that put it on is an old friend of mine and he is known for being a perfectionist. It appears that now I will have to get the whole truck painted since the hood looks so good.

Yeah, just like the wife gets new drapes, then decides to get new furniture to match the new drapes, then decides the room needs new carpet to match the new furniture that she got to match the new drapes, then decides that the kitchen needs a make over to match the new living room with the new carpet that she bought to match. . .Until she decides that you really need to sell this house and buy something newer:D :D :D

Exactly. And all of a sudden, my "cheap" p/u turns into a white elephant. I can't afford to get rid of it, and I have so much invested in it I can't afford NOT to have major repairs done. I can only hope that all the seals fail at the same time, the injectors start to slobber and the IP begins to surge just as the tranny begins to slip in 3rd and the rear end bearings start to growl right when the dash circuit board quits just before the driver's door hinges fall off as I step out of the truck on the scales at the salvage yard.
Taxi, please.

I do like your hood idea. Do you mind telling what brand and where you got it?

Thanks

And the wiring harness under the dash catches fire!

I really don't know what brand it is, just whatever my local body shop uses. A friend of mine from High School owns a body shop in town. He does all my paint/body related work. I think some company out of Sheveport LA is where he ordered my hood.

Does anyone know the name of the manufacturer of these steel hoods? Or even the supplier name or website?
