what should a 95 6.5 turbo diesel suburban with about 165,000 miles, new head gaskets, and cylinder head run at so far as oil pressure goes? Is there any way to increase oil pressure withough redoing the pistons??

According to my owners’ manual, 1994, as long as the needle does not go into the red, oil pressure in ok. My oil pressure was, at idle, on the threshold of the red zone and higher at running rpm. I am putting in a new engine with a HV oil pump in it. SSDiesel supply sells one. This is likely the best way to raise oil pressure. Changing the pistons would, to the best of my knowledge, not increase oil pressure.

Hot, idle 10/15 psi 2000rpm 35/40 psi is Ok ( this is with a good 15/40 oil ). Pistons wear has nothing to do with oil pressure. Loose rod, main and cam bearings cause poor oil pressure.

What about excessive oil pressure??
A little off subject but my older Caviler has been getting like 60 at idle and 80 at speed.. is this normal???
Thanks

may be the sender unit, the oil pressure guage on my 82 went nuts for a while when it had 60,000 miles then read around 80 psi ever since, little higher cold , little lower hot, so although not correct, it is working.

I have a 93 that has 165,000 on it. I recently removed the oil cooler lines and plugged the block with set screws, I noticed a slight decrease in pressure at idle hot 10, at 2500rpm 50. I hope to put new cooler lines on it soon. I'm guessing the drop in pressure is from the oil running a little hotter, although I've seen no increase in engine temp.

Bluevee33 When you have a wackey oil pressure the first thing you do is put a shop guage on it, so you know the true oil pressure.
