Today after 268000 miles my truck stalled. would not restart so had to be towed. It has been 2 years since i replaced the IP and Added Walt's PMD w/ #9 resistor. My truck has run flawlessly for the last 2 years. I'm planning a big trip in July and wonder where to look. It did restart after sitting for 3 hours./ Can anyone help here ?

The restart after cooling down following a "mystery" engine shut down points to the most obvious culprit:

Hate to say this, but it sounds like your PMD could be going out. There have been some people that have experienced their mounting screws loosening on their PMD months after they've installed it on the Heat-Sync. If they have loosened, back them out one at a time, put a drop of Loctite 242 Red on the threads, and torque them back down. This will buy you some more time, but if the PMD has failed once, it will continue to do so intermittently until final death.

The PMD would be the first place I'd start. Other places to look could be a failing lift pump (causing starvation to the IP while running at speed) or a a failing OPS that is shutting off your lift pump while running.

Hope this helps.

I hate to say this publicly, but even with walt's heatsync the PMD will still overheat and fail if you leave it under hood. For future-proofness, extending the harness and moving the heatsink to the bumper opening or grill is the ONLY method....

See my thread on "PMD Grill Mount"

Have you ever felt any of the under-hood components on these babies after running? It's like 170+ degrees.... The electronics in these PMD's are only rated to 140F........ When your underhood air is hotter than your desired underhood component temperature, only refrigeration will do the job.....
