I was getting dtc code 36 so I replaced my PMD with the FSD Heat-Sync on advice from walt. I cleared the codes and ran fine with no codes for about a month or two. I am currently getting a DTC 36 intermitantly, Usually In the early morning when its cold. After it warms up the code doesnt come up. Any ideas on whats happening?

my list shows a 37 code as "brake switch stuck on". I'm not sure what that means but it doesn't sound like the PMD.

My understanding of code 36 is it is IP related. Something about the optical sensor getting funny readings. Or a part in the IP binding. Could be as simple as bubbles in fuel. I was getting 36 on my 94 for a while. Replaced fuel filter housing and some hoses. Seemed to help for a while. 36 came back once in a while. About a month ago I dumped a quart of Rotella in the fuel tank. 36 has not been back since. I drive a lot of miles too.

Interesting, What is and where can i get Rotella? I found the optical sensor filter harness on ssdieselsupply.com Do you think it could be noise from the alternator?

"Optical Sensor Filter Harness for all 94-2002 6.5TD's using the electronic DS4 injection pumps.

Some applications will trip a false codes from interferance from the alternator. This plug-in noise filter will eliminate this fault.

Simply un-plug the optical sensor harness and plug into this filter harness then back into the optical sensor. No tools required. A 5 minute job!

Will eliminate false trips of 17, 18, 35, 36, 42, 43 or 1216, 1217, 0183, 0183 caused by alternator noise interferance.

If you are experiencing these codes and no other symptoms, you may be tripping false codes from alternator interferance."

Are you just getting the code 36? or, Are you actually having problems with your truck running?

Its just the code 36, im not having any problems. The DTC will light up then if i let off the pedel it will go off. Only sometimes will it return again right after. I repeat the same step and it goes away.

That's what mine was doing. After dumping a quart of motor oil in the fuel, it went away for the past month or so. Hard to say what the real problem is. Truck runs great. I'm thinking something in the IP was sticking and needed a bit of lube. Might need a new IP sometime down the road, but for now I'm putting on miles.

Thats weird.....My engine light does the same exact thing, let off the throttle and it goes away. Only difference is i'm getting the code 35 and my dually is having problems with stalling, very intermittent though. I've already changed the ops, lift punp, and pmd harness. My fsd heat sink w/ new pmd is only 1 year old. I'm getting a steady fuel pressure of 5 psi even when it stalls. My next step was the IP but I will try the rottela trick.

Hey Ted,.....Is your tank 34 gal like mine? And did you put one quart to a full tank?

The easiest and best oil you can put in your tank is 2-stroke oil. This oil is made for lubing the engine inside. I put about 1/2 litre in 26 gallons. So i recommed for your 34 gllons about 1 quart. This oil lubes the injectors, the lift pump und the injection pump.

sorry for my bad english - I'm german !
