I noticed a fuel leak recently coming from underneath my 95 Chevy 3500. upon inspection, it appears to be leaking between the motor and tranny....and appears to be leaking out of the bell housing. What could possibly be running through there? Engine oil is clean. The truck is horrible on mileage as well. Maybe...MAYBE 10 mpg on a good day driving around town....quite possibly up to 12 mpg on the highway if I am lucky. For that mileage I may as well get a gas dump to haul my landscape equipment.

Thanks

I had asimular event about a year ago. It started shortly after I had changed my fuel filter. It turned out to be that the old gasket stayed on the filer housing and with the double gasket, it leaked.

My guess would be something in the valley under the intake manifold is leaking and running down the back of the engine. It could be some thing with the fuel filter assembly, the hose to the IP from the filter or the IP itself or the injector lines. So look it over closely and you will probably find the leak. Good luck!!

Remove your fuel filter housing and check both the lines from the lift pump and the bottom of the housing itself. Then check lines going from housing to IP.

Hope this helps,
Tony

Also had similar issue with one of my trucks and it was that the fuel filter was not seated correctly and pinched when I changed it. My fault since I was in a hurry and just had to replace it and tighten the screw hold tighter.

I had this identical problem, It WAS the fuel filter ring! When I removed and replaced my fuel filter (there is a very thin metal ring about the diameter of the fuel filter inside the rubber gasket on the fuel filter) it fell off as I was removing the old filter and I didn't catch it thus the new filter would never seat correctly and did it leak! Like the other guys said, remove the filter housing and check underneath, if all there is good, check for an additional meatl ring around the housing. There should be the new filter, one rubber gasket and one metal ring to replace it! Good luck:cool:

I a simular leak,it turned out to be the wire harness located at the bottom of the fuel filter assy. fuel was seeping out and running down the bell housing. LOLuck. By the way I ordered a new assy. from ssdiesel, good price and exact fit. The job was easy with the intakes removed, it made it MUCH easier to get to the fuel lines. If you do this send me a PM and I will tell you a couple more things

Thanks guys....i guess it has just about been since I changed the fuel filter so I will hope for that. It seems that this is the area that everyone is thinking about so I will be sure to go over it really well. It appeared dry from the top what I could see with a flash light, since that was the area I thought of first as well. I will remove the filter and inspect further. Thanks alot.
