I was taking off my downpipe last night in the dark (no flashlight) and broke off one of the studs on the exhaust pipe (exhaust pipe to downpipe connection). Does anyone know if this is a welded-in stud or a pressed-in stud? Can I beat out the broken stud or should I just drill it out. I want to be able to get my supplies today before working on it tonight. Thanks for the help.

Should be pressed in studs. Check out these links :

Hope this helps you !

EDIT :

Or did you mean the connection flange from the downpipe the the rest of the exhaust, located under the passenger seat ?
Do know exactly, what kind of studs there in, but these could be definitly replaced with normal bolts, nut and washer. Just grind, drill or cut the rest of/out.
