The lower pipe from the condenser coming back below the passenger side battery divides into 2 pipes. The top one arrives at a nut connecting it to another tube, and the front system orifice is in there. The rear one will be behind the passenger side rear wheel where there is a nut on the tube just before it goes up through the panel. Have to clear the rear one on mine, have just made an adaptor to drain the freon from the high pressure side.

I'm doing the same thing to my suburban. I got the nut off that connects the two tubes, but I can't seem to get the two pipes apart. Is there a special trick? I'm afraid I will break one of them if I pull too hard. How far does the first tube fit into the other?

thanks,

tup

I've not had the suburban one apart, but the chev yes, and it fits in only a couple of millimeters. You may have to let go some clamp near the condensor in the front.

thanks for your help, I managed to turn the nut closest to the firewall and pull up to get it apart. The orifice tube was oily but ok, I changed it anyway. The nut near the condenser did slip back onto the crimp and it was hell to get it off and after I got the A/C charged I heard a hiss at the crimp :( . I put some JB Weld on it for tonight and I hope it works for tomorrow.

thanks again,

tup

I think you are going to have problems with the JB weld repair, use soapy water to check for leaks and don't put much gas in unitil you have the leaks stopped.

could this be the reason why my rear a/c does not get cold anymore but front is fine. line to rear unit doesnt get cold but frontone does.

could be two reasons, first, if the system is short of gas the rear will shut down. I had the problem that the compressor was replaced plus oil then the hoses replaced plus oil then the whole system is full of oil and almost does not cool. In your case I believe that the system has lost freon. You should be able to buy a can of it 134a, and a connector, careful the connector I bought from Napa did not fit the can. But you have a leak, 134a is not an ecological contaminent, consider cost of not repairing the leak.
