In 2003 my front disk brake pads were replaced then the truck broke down and sat for three years. Recently I fixed it and it runs amazing. I have a 1995 6.5TD suburban 2500 4x4 with 167,000 miles on it. I got it running around 162,000 miles and around 164,500 miles I started to hear a squeek in the front near the brakes of the truck. Do to a flat I replaced the front tires and I cheked both of the rotors and pads. The rotors are smooth and the pads have a lot left on them, the truck is also all greased up but it still squeeks only when I go to stop. As I go to stop if I press the brakes a little harder to come to a complete stop they dont squeek. What I want to know is what is this squeek and where is it coming from. Could it be the bearings and how much are those to buy?? Any help would be appreciated to get rid of sound, thnx.

It might just be the pads. Could be contaminates in the pad as well, which may work its way out.

Bad bearing would most likely make a different sound.

When my truck was movable...

I heard a slight squeek when i applied my brakes lightly under about 25 mph. It might just be the pad surface... Not to sure though. Don't hear it much anyways because of music and engine/exhaust noise :).

It may be a bent wear indicator on the brake pads. Is it only on 1 side?

Could also be that a pad has broke loose from the anti-rattle compound, or if equipped with anti-rattle shims, it has lost its springiness. This could also explain your mystery noise.

Disk brake squeal is primarily caused by the pad vibrating in the caliper. Inexpensive pads ( OK cheap ) Don't have the shims on the back of the pad to dampen the vibration, premium pads do have shims attached to the back of the pad. Sometimes the cheap pad will be quite, sometimes not! While your rig was sitting for 3 years things could have changed with the pads( rust . lining drying out, etc. ) Drive it some more the noise might go away or not. There are compounds you can get at a auto parts store that go between the pad and caliper that will help. If it was me I would just go for a set of premium pads!!!
