I have a '92 C2500, 6.5L TD, Standard Cab in Cheyenne trim (plain-Jane). The wipers and washers won't work until I've driven the truck around for awhile, say 5-10 minutes. Is there a known concern for this system? Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated...

Remove the black cover on the wiper motor, pull out the circuit board and check for a broken solder joint. Happens quite often.

I've heard that if you tap on the cover with the wiper switch on, that sometimes the wipers will start working. That would be an indication that a solder joint is bad. Mine would quit working about 10 minutes into a rain storm on the hiway. Not fun in traffic. I just replaced the control module and all was fine. I don't remember how much, but it wasn't too bad. I bought it at Napa.

Thanks to "1999GMC" and "3BALS" for the tips. I'll perform the diagnosis following your recommendations and post the results when I'm done...

Thats a typical Chevy Problem ! The circuit board that controls the wiper motor has some contacts points in it that may be either dirty or just plain wore out.Its located behind the black cover on the wiper motor.

GM had a recall on the wiper motor control module. Go to a dealer and have them run your VIN to see if yours is in the recall window. Mine wasn't. The module is about $30 afteremarket, but if you want to be cheap and repair it yourself, it is very easy.

Remove the harness connector. Remove the bolt. Remove the cover. Pull the board. Where the three pins from the connector attach to the board is where the solder joint breaks down. With a 15 watt soldering iron and a little silver solder, you'll be better than new.

Hope this helps.
