I was told that you could drill the manifold for the EGT probe with the engine idleing to prevent metal shavings from getting in the motor. That wont throw metal shavings into the turbo damaging the turbo?

I've heard of it being done, but I find it hard to believe that all the chips are coming out of the hole...I did it while I had the turbo off changing the injectors, I stuffed shop rags into the manifold and then shop vac'd the chips out.....

Drill the hole without the truck running. Next use a magnet to get as many of the shavings out as possible(Take your time!!). Then start the truck up and run for a while. Then remagnet the hole. This is how we do it at our shop.
