I was considering changing my injectors and was wondering if anyone knew about marine injectors.like will you lose m.p.g. and do you have to put marine nozzles on too or does that come with the new injectors??? any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will probably INCREASE your mileage with marine hi pop injectors do to a more efficient spray patern. Use the "search" function on this site or info from ssdiesel's site for more on this.

1. You will not lose mpg, rather you will see a gain in milage at a steady highway cruise. Reason: Marine injectors flow more fuel than stock. With more fuel, a diesel runs more efficiently (contrary to gas-burners, forget what you know about them when dealing with how a diesel works) and produces more mpg for the same speed down the road. You will also gain 20-40 hp with marine injectors.

2. No. Marine injectors are complete out of the box. The rebuild of a stock body with certain modifications and a marine nozzle results in a marine injector ready for install.

3. Walt's marine kit also comes with new injector hoses, the replacement of which is STRONGLY recommended at injector replacement (cheap insurance against a "leaker" a few thousand miles later).

Hope this helps.

Well described, Husker:D

Thank you. My dad once said: "You can let the world think you are a fool, or you can open your mouth and prove it."

If I know what I'm talking about, I'll comment, if I don't I won't until I research the subject.

I bought the marine injectors on Walt's recommendation that OEM ones only last a bit over 100K miles.
Replacing the left bank was no big deal.
Right bank means removing the turbo. Getting at the nuts under the turbo has proven impossible for my big, old, arthritic hands. 15mm nuts rusted in place after 10 1/2 years in Central Texas (no salt, cool winters & hot summers). I can reach one of them (front right) from above. Have not been able to get enough torque to break it loose.
Then there are the other three to remove!

A local Dodge/Cummins specialty shop tried, but couldn't get them off.

Do I get at them from underneath?

Any secrets/suggestions?

I did mine all from the top. I CAREFULLY used a torch to heat them enough to get them off. Don't forget the oil return pipe too.

remove the passenger side inner fender then its a snap
I had to heat two nuts on the turbo but it was easy to do with the inner fender out of the way

When I was replacing my heads, I had to take out the turbo on the passenger side as well, I got 1 nut of and stripped the other 3 because they were too rusted on. So, no matter what I did I just couldnt get these nuts off and in my frustration I thought about it for a second and decided to just unclamp the downpipe and I took the bolts out of the header and just took the whole turbo/header assembly out. This was much easier and allowed me to clamp the assembly to my work bench and heat up the nuts and studs on the turbo then unscrew them off, just be carefull, the turbo/header assembly is pretty heavy...hope this helps.

I figure God made pb Blaster for a reason. I spray my bolts down nightly for about a week before I pull off my turbo, exhaust, crossover, glowplugs, etc.

Never (not once, not ever, never) had a problem removing one of those bolts. Never stripped one, never broke one, never rounded one off.

Never.

Ever.

What's pb Blaster? Is it available down here below the arctic circle? :D

Actually, I bought it down there, in the land of cheap beer and hot dogs. It's hard to get up here... we have to squeeze sheep to get ours... it's called fluidfilm.

i just installed my marine injectors along the driver side today..will tackle the passenger side tomorrow. I found the hardest part was to get the clamps on over the return lines ( i think thats the little hoses..right?), they really worked me over. other than that i was surprised how smooth it went.

Can't wait to read your results! I had all the fun I could stand with my big ol' arthritic hands just getting at (but not removing) the front right nut. Guy at a diesel shop north of here (Leander, Texas) gave up, too. He's a Cummings nut, though!

Local "guru" and the Chevy dealership wants $500+ to replace passenger side injectors & glow plugs using my parts!

Hey, Jim. Don't give up! I got really mad the first time I did it too. The best way I have found to get the turbo nuts loose is to use a 15mm socket and one long extention (10-12") or a combination of some shorter extentions. Whith the extentions you can reach the nuts whith your ratchet down near the frame rail, there's alot more room down there. If you can't seem to get the leverage from up top, leave the ratchet there and reach through the wheel well.
Best of luck to you!

well, I got to a late start sunday morning :) and got as far as taking the turbo off and putting the injectors in, but not hooked up. it'll have to wait a few days now.
taking the turbo off was alright, i got the front two turbo/manifold bolts undone with a wrench. to do the back ones i took my tire off and went straight up from underneath. with a swivel and extension it worked like a charm.

hey jimirwin, i think we can get through this together! lol...i don't think i would pay someone $500 to do this job.

o and does anyone know if a lot of pressure runs through the return lines??

well with marine injectors in now, i have a knocking sort of noise from the turbo side. gonna get some help with it tonight but was wondering if anyone else had this problem?
truck kicks out some smoke now too. I have the 9 resistor but haven't put it in yet. I'd hate to see the smoke it puts out then!

I have often heard new injectors rattle, use a piece of hose and listen to the injector lines near the injectors. If the noise is there, turn the radio volume up. You may need a spring on you waste gate to help it to give more turbo boost.

grancito, as long as you keep answering my questions, i'm gonna keep asking them.

i'll take your advice and check, but it sure sounds like a mechanical knock. if it's just a new injector should it go away eventually? a mechanic who works on everything from cars to big rigs thought it might be a defective injector, but didn't have any other ideas. i sure hope you're right and he's not.
could you explain a little more about a spring for the turbo? I've never really taking the time to read about boost controllers...is that what you mean?

Garth gave you the answer, they often need time to settle in. My turbo system has a problem and the computer has gone to turbo default mode and limits the pressure. So meanwhile I hooked a screen door spring over the end of the wastegate control rod and stretched it a bit, passed the battery and with a piece of fence wire, hooked it through a hole in the front panel by the radiator. It is stretched to be 1 inch longer than relaxed, and has increased the boost by 2 psi. It is not strong enough to use on it's own, only to assist boost. I am going to shorten it, and connect it by the wastegate controller to cause better boost at high reves.

You will also gain 20-40 hp with marine injectors.

I have yet to see anyone produce dyno results that back that claim. Every time I ask a vendor for test results, they get quiet. And I'm not talking about testing 100K mile stock injectors versus the marine injectors, I want to see new versus new.

Just wondering if there is a visual difference between a normal and marine injector without tearing it apart.

Thanks
