Here is a photo from my burb, I don't know what would cause it to jump off, apart from it being warn or stretched.

Here is just the pulley to replace :

Summitracing.com - Pulley (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=GTR%2D49001&N=700+4294908216+4294924760+4294908012+4294839841+ 115&autoview=sku)

Or the complete tensioner at LMC Truck :

Sometimes you can replace just the bearings in the idler. I haven't done one on a 6.5 yet but I have changed them on other GM engines. If there is any wobble in the tensioner arm at all replace the whole thing!!!

went and got new belt tensioner and belt, belt is same part # as was on veh from napa today, checked diagram sent by member[6 pulleys plus, belt tensioner],[gmc sent me same diagram for non a/c diesel, 6.5td], however my pulley setup is different, napa said belt part# is for 94 6.5td, i suspect engine swap on this truck prior to purchase, engine is a turbo,no a/c,with only 5 pulleys,1 ribbed pulley for crank,1water pump non ribbed pulley,1 ribbed air pump pulley upper left when facing motor,1 alt ribbed pulley right side upper, below alt pulley is power steering pulley ribbed. belt tensioner is just left of alt pulley. has fisher plow pump independent of serp belt direct to crank w/stnd pulley and seperate belt. anyone familar with this pully configuration? i ran the belt along the 6 pulley config minus the 6th idler pully i don't have and it comes close. ? whats the trick to take tension off belt tensioner pulley to slip belt over alt pulley? sorry for the big wind, just don't want to put the snake on wrong. thanks for your help!

I've never seen a 6,5TD WITHOUT A/C here in germany, so i don't the exactly belt routing, but you told us, yours is a 1994. Does it have the electronic controlled injection pump or the old mechanical IP ? If it is equipped with the mechanical IP, it could be possible, that there is no vacuum pump and that what you described as it the A/C.

You should check the part number of your belt with the goodyear numbers on summit racing page. I know, there are two belts. One for engines with A/C and one for without. Curios that the belt without A/C is 1" longer than the one with. In my truck they installed the wrong one for a non-A/C model. Fits, but the tensioner could tension it enough. Just replaced it with the right one.

You can take tension of the belt tensioner with an 18mm socket and rachet put on the hex with is in the tensioner pulley. It is much easier with a second person. One to take the tension of and one to route the belt over the pulleys.

A YUP ALL FIXED, found out it use to have fisher plow, belt pully pattern was changed, old owner muscled oem belt on & caused tensioner to fry its bearings, put on same width 20mm 6 rib belt only 1/2" longer[103" instead of oem 102 1/2"], 10 min fix, so if anyone runs into odd serp belt pully pattern as i did. thats it. thanks for your replys.:) :D
