Before I go out and buy a new PMD, is there a way to check this with a simple type voltmeter? My '94 Dually won't start and hasn't for some time. I've confirmed there is fuel getting to the injection pump(replaced lift pump). I've also unplugged the solenoid on top of the injector pump and confirmed that it's getting 12 volts while cranking. Ohmed out the solenoid and it appear to be OK too. Common sense tells me the PMD since it's the original one on the truck. Any other ideas to check this?

Chech for fuel at the injectors. Loosen one fuel line at an injector, crank the engine, and check for fuel. No fuel: bad PMD. Fuel: you've got worse problems like too low compression to ignite the fuel.

Have already cracked on of the injector lines and no fuel whatsoever. Even after repeated cranking. I can get it to fire by priming it through the intake with a little kerosene, but it won't stay running since the pump isn't sending any fuel to the injectors.

A bad crankshaft position sensor or wiring to it can cause a no fuel situation also. The ECM doesn't know where the crank is in its rotation and doesn't know when to turn the fuel on. But my money is on the PMD!!

Sixnickel and Husker could be both right.

Could be a bad PMD and/or a bad carnkshaft position sensor.
In my opinion you should check the CPS first, because it is much cheaper and easier to test.

How do you check the cranshaft position sensor to see if it's good or bad? I just ordered a used(supposed to be tested good) PMD off e-bay just to see if it will fire up with it. If that doesn't work, how do I confirm the other.

First do an optical check for any loose or broken wires. Than you should check with a voltmeter if there is 12V at one of the three wires with ignition on. Often the fault is a broken wire.

Got lucky I guess. The $25 PMD I got off e-bay got it running. Fired right up and drove it home 40 miles without a hitch. Now, to address all of service issues on this thing. Old farm truck that doesn't look like it's been well serviced. Will also pick up another good used PMD and keep in the glove box for a spare.
