hey guys i just finished cleaning out the rediculas amount of soot in my intake manifold and i think my EGR may be stuck open. I was thinking of just plugging it up and not having one. I know the upper plenum on HD trucks doesn't have the EGR located in the top like i do. Let me know what you guys think. Ive got a 95 yukon 6.5 Madd props to all you guys on here. Ive learned a lot and actually just relocated my PMD and installed a new resistor and am gutting my upper plenum all thanks to you guys on here. The forum is awesome! thanks guys

Unless you are in a really freezing climate, I would say plug the hose. Did that to the Chev 14 years ago, less problems. Did you make the "Kennedy Diesel mod to the inside of the plenum? See my "EGR intake extension Modification" photos. Am going to post them in a few minutes.

hey thanks for the reply. i actually just got done with that mod to the plenum. I didn't leave anything though, i followed the line of the gasket and left the EGR main port in the middle but took everything else out. I saw that you left the strips under the EGR side ports. But i appreciate the advice, i am actually going to just remove the EGR valve and cover the hole with a plate to plug it. I had so much soot in my intake that i never want to clean that again :) but when you removed the hose did you lose many MPG's or was it not noticeable? I know that recirculating the exaust helps get more mpgs but i wasn't sure if you would notice it. Thanks again.

I didn't lose mpg, as the system on the 82 truck only returned exhaust at idle, or thottle off, with extra when the brakes were on, as a gate restricted one exhaust. Seemed to be just a cold weather system. My suburban is an HD emissions model and does not return exhaust gas, just had the S VIN intake extension without the being machined for the EGR valve.

hey i am about to install my pmd in my bumper along with the newly installed resistor. did you notcie a power difference when you did that to your truck?

I bought my burb with the #9 resistor and ss heatsync on the manifold, just moved it to the bumper to prevent destruction of the PMD. Tested my intake extension mod today, and it does not blow black smoke like before, only rarely, low reves, boot down, but short puff of smoke. Hope to get better mpg from this mod.

yeah i actually didn't really find a good way to mount it into the bumper to i just put it into my grill. it is a nice location and was easy to get to. I am hoping to finish up with all that tonight and get it out on the road. am lookin for more power so hopefully this does it for me. also i cut a piece of 3/8'' aluminum plate the shape of the EGR gasket and bolted that in place of the EGR so i think that should work just fine. Let me know about the mpgs on the intake mod.

Ok, it will take a couple of weeks to burn enough diesel.

well i finaly finished my little project. i finally got to drive it after relocating the pmd, installing the resistor, cleaning out the intake manifold, and gutting the upper plenum, also removing the ERG valve and replcaing it with a plateto seal the hole completely. its a totally different truck. it sounds much different. it has a low growl at around 1600-2100 rpms it never had and runs incredibly smooth. better than ever. sounds just like a tractor trailer. thanks a ton for all the advice it made all the difference. ill let you know about my mpgs also
