I have seen the dual t stat set up but, in looks easy enough as far as install goes. But money is a major issue as is everyone. I was thinking of upgrading the fan and t stat, and of course flush and fill the radiator. I havent had much trouble with overheating although it did get very hot up a steep mountain pass once. A buddy of mine was getting alot of overheating in his suburban, and only bought the 180 thermostat, and got his coolant flushed. He saw great results with a steady cooler temp overall. I know old coolant isnt very stable, and is a cause of most overheating problems. So you know my truck does not over heat, Im am looking along the lines of maintenance, but a few hundred extra bucks to help my truck is no problem. Just looking for thoughts or from experience.

Get the fan upgrade for starters. Then when you have the top half of the shroud and fan off with air or a water hose blow the rad clear from the engine side to the grill side, all sorts of stuff will come out of there. Garth

That is exactly where I plan to start, I dont pull much anymore. But the occasional camping stuff. What is the difficulty on the fan swap? An hour at the most from what I can see. My fan is centered up, so no adjustment to the shroud from what I can see. It looks like 4 bolts and thats it. Thanks for your help.

The swap is quick and easy. the only problem I had was there was a bolt missing at the bottom on the lower shroud. It took longer to replace the bolt than to install the fan. Have to stand on your head to get at it ..Garth

LOL, man I can see how that is definately possible. I was also looking into just swapping out my stock exhaust for a ssdiesel 4 incher. But the truck looks to have a cat on it. I know a few guys who have exhausts but without the cat. Odd. Any feedback on that, I live in COlorado, but the truck is originally from Michigan.Possible regional laws? I do take emissions tests, but I here the engine runs considerably cooler with a freed up exhaust. I know this held true on my Hondas in high school. Im not sure how you can pass emissions without a cat...right?

As far as a cat goes each area is different so make sure to check before you take it off.
A new 4inch system will really work even if you have to have a cat and make sure to do the intake too...Garth

I beleive SSD offers the kit for cat. or no cat. I live in south ga so the cat was disposed of when I did mine.:D

The guy that does my emissions...only guy in a 100 mile radius, said as long as I have "something" in place. It will pass?! I will go ahead and get the high flow cat from SSD, a little bit more, but I will pay to have it legit. Since you guys are THE most helpful....any mods to the exhaust system? I dont weld, and would like to do it myself. Any tips? I own a 95 extended cab, with the short bed.

The system from ssdiesel just clamps together no welding needed if you have a reg cab or short box you will need a hacksaw to shorten one pipe

I can borrow a tail pipe cutter...I own a few hack saws. I called my muffler shop they had never even heard of a 4 inch exhaust system for a 6.5 strange as it is. Not many 6.5s out here. I have it set it stone I am going to get my exhaust from ssdiesel. I noticed the price in the cat kit is actually very modest compared to other kits. Thanks for the info garth I hope you get commision for this.lol. I can get it put on by the muffler shop for 75$ not too bad.
