    Smile turn up mechanical fuel pump - turbo boost

    Could someone please help me with info on turning up a 93 mechanical fuel injection pump. I was told once that there is a plug on the side of the pump which has undernieth it a set screw which neeeds to be turned in about one full turn. The only plug I can see is just behind the throttle shaft and towards the rear of the truck. I just want to make sure of what I am doing so that I won't do anything to air lock the pump.

    I would also like to find out where to purchase a mechanical turbo boost pressure regulator.

    Sent you a pm about the mechanical wastegate controller. Also banks install guides are available online. This tells you how to do it on the 6.2, which im sure is almost the same as the 6.5. http://www.bankspower.com/OwnersManuals/96292.pdf

    Hey How'd the turn-up go? I have to do this on my 6.2 in a few weeks and would appreciate it if you had any advice to give after having done it yourself.

    Default turning the screw

    The first thing you want to do before you turn the screw is put a boost gauge and a EGT gauge in. If you thing that if Banks says 1/4 turn go 1/4 turn. Don't think a 1/2 turn is better. Any thing after that 1/4 turn is in the danger zone you have to watch the EGTs with a max boost of 12psi. Have fun and good luck!!

    Just got out of hospital so haven't done turn up yet, kooks like it will be a couple of more weeks till I get able again. I do have turbo boost and pyro guages. was told by other reliable source to go one turn. I will probably start out with 1/4 turn and go from there. As soon as it's done I will let you know the results.

    I did put on a 4" stainless exhuast kit from SS Diesel and there is a noticable increase in power although I did not receive the whole kit and am still trying to get the missing piece sent to me. Another problem is that now I run out of power at about 3400 RPM, don't know why yet.

    Somebody else just asked about this. I believe that this is the governor. A diesel like the 6.5 cant do much more then 3500rpm. Powerstrokes and cummins too. There are really high performance diesels that can do 7000rpm but thats like a gas engine going to 13000rpm. (like my motorcycle)

    Default Bump...

    Bumping this thread back up.
    I've finally got my new turbo and everything is just about squared away, I'd like to turn up my injection pump this weekend, Wanted to bounce a few questions first.

    I've got my turbo setup and under hard acceleration I get maybe 2-5lb of boost. Will this increase after I turn up the pump?

    Right now I have a high flow cone filter on the intake and the exhaust is being dumped after a 3" downpipe. My EGT's are around 300*. Even NA I would expect this to be higher. Does this sound right?

    Does this mean I have a lot of room for more fuel? I am going to start with the 1/4 turn but should I expect to have to turn it up additional 1/8th?

    Go for it turn the pump up. Your low boost and EGT's are most likley due to under fueling. Is your TC pre or post turbo??

    Default Pyro Probe Location

    I put it before the turbo right on the top of the header where the flange is for the turbo. When I really work the engine I think I can get it up to 500* but thats it. The day I had to limp the jeep back to the garage after I blew up my rear end it was up to 700*.
