my advice would be to please please please dont ruin a good 4x4 old 6.5 by "ghetto-izing" it lift it 2" if anything put some meaty tires, or adapters and 19.5 semi wheels on it with a nice stereo and paint job on it, i have a feeling by lowering a 4x4, let alone a 6.5 would lose most everyones respect

please dont hate me for saying this, but anyone who lowers a 4x4, had no buisness buying the damned thing in the first place....and is in my frank opinion, if they do are complete freaking morons!

duramax guys lower (de-crank) their torsion bars so the CV shafts are straight for truck pulling.

maybe he is in a desperate hunt for mpg? IMHO, if he just plays with cranking the torsion bars, we should leave him alone. but if he tries any lower, hell hath no fury...

I have more respect for a rig that can get mpgs, so if they are low to the ground and getting 25 mpg, good for them. if they have a 12 inch lift and 8 mpg, gues who lost all my respect?

if you have a truck most likely fuel economy isnt that big of a deal. you dont buy a 4x4 truck for economy, you buy it for power, pulling, and probably capability offroad. but its always nice to have the 18-20 mpg that you can get in these 6.5's. mine has bigger tires, an all steel flatbed, and worn injectors, and the ip is starting to go and i can still pull 17 mpg out of it, and still 13 to 14 for towing, i highly doubt that lowering a truck like this will get you more

I must say that I got a good laugh out of the good ole boys we got contributing their thoughts! Not going to join the fray but I will say that as I understand the torsion bar function and helping my son raise his 4 X 4 truck, is that if you untorque the bars they will not perform as needed under load and your ride characteristics will change. Look into getting some different 'keys' or crossmember brackets or something if you have to do this. Keys are the arms which fit in the crossmember and 'index' the arms in the proper position. A typical raising effort that I helped my son do- is to use Ford keys to jack it up. He is on a 4 x 4 forum and learned it there. So you might join a ghettoizing forum to learn how to lower. Sorry- couldn't resist. lol

My son said that maybe the 1500 keys will index lower and you could do some adjustable drop shackles in the rear to keep your ride able to carry some weight. If you are not interested in carrying the design weight, then you can try untorqueing your bars and removing a leaf from the rear springs. That will make it ride less stiff at the sacrifice of the load carrying ability.

I can't remember the name of the member, but a few years back there was a forum member from I believe Georgia who slammed a 1 Ton Dually Crew Cab Long Bed. He ran 19.5 rims and it had the rockers just a couple of inches off the ground, had rocker flares, visor, killer paint job, was one sick ride. I believe it was 2WD. There's a picture of it on his avatar and I think in the Photo Section of the forum.

Actually, I just spent the time since my last post looking, it's DragNasty out of southern Georgia. His '99 3500 CC dually is his Avatar, and one of the very first photo entries has three other of his slammed pickups.
