Why do you want to put a CAT on it, no smog for diesels in Cal., and a boost problem will block it and cause more polution than never having one.

    Exclamation unfortuneately not the case

grantico, im sorry to have to say this but the california air resource board and bureau of automotive repair decided as of 2010 that all diesels 1998 and newer have to pass a visual inspect., throttle snap test to test for excessive smoke, nad no one makes a aftermarket c.a.r.b. approved cat for a diesel yet.....
thats why i need a 6.5 or 6.2 cat to put up there, however my intent was to make a "fake cat"......cut it at ends and run solid pipe thru it.... i just need the freakin cat to do it

Oh, things change, and you don't have an old CAT to put a crow bar through to knock the internals out. How about checking the junk yards.

so at this point i have 3 options..
    1) buy $800+ replacement
    2) get old one from someone who doesn't need theirs and "fake a cat"
    3) scrap my truck because i cant sell it to someone else

Mine had been removed when I bought my suburban, but I saw someone mention on this site a couple of years ago, that a Ford pickup muffler looks the same as a CAT and has been used to replace them.
