What does the fluid look like?
Maintain your Chevy Silverado automatic transfer case with Auto-Trak II fluid, GM part number 12378508 in the United States. A manual transfer case takes DEXRON-III automatic transmission fluid.

The fill port is directly above the drain about 1/2 way up the T case.

Auto Trac II fluid is Blue when new. If your fluid is dark colored, you might wanna change it since its part way down already.

What is so special for trans case fluid, older ones used ATF?

Nearly everything is being upgraded to synthetic lube now.

Funny story about Trans Case lube. Never worked on one with with a chain inside. Found out that ones with chains use the ATF where as the gear ones use 90 weight.

the guy who rebuilt mine said any ATF will be suffice. Ask me why i had to have mine rebuilt...lol
