Correction to my last post. It is only necessary to remove the thermostat to check for gas. The fan belt needs to be removed also.

I went and used the Blue Devil head gasket sealer on my truck to give me some time to get the money up to grab some new heads and gaskets. So far my truck does not over heat. The temp gauge goes from close to 210 then drops back to the big line between the 160-210 range. It fluctuates up and down as I'm driving. hopefully it holds till I'm able to obtain those two things.

Before you buy anything, check for gas out the thermostat housing, then if there's gas one side, pull the head and look for cracks everywhere, especially the rear cylinder bore. That is where mine failed, I have spent weeks trying to get the engine out to replace the block, I have told the GM engineers about their failed design, verbally from under the truck. I rest for a few days after each episode.

Well after using Blue Devil Gasket Sealer truck is no longer overheating. Before the overheating issue I noticed my oil pressure was low even after a fresh oil change. I added some Lucas Oil Stabalizer to my last oil change and now the pressure is alot mor higher and I'm not burning oil like I used to. So I'm planning on switching to the new P400 in the near future. I have a 2wd c1500 stepside and I heard that I won't need to modify a new oil pan with the 2wd trucks.
