Thread: AM General 6.5

Well here we go again! I have replaced my PMD with 3 different known good ones, replaced the extension harness with another new one. Drive around for days no problem, then a start and die, then no start, then start and die, then start and drive around like nothing happened. I am seriously thinking I may have a problem with the fuel solenoid in the pump not working correctly or maybe shorting out. Only other option would be to remove plunger on fuel shut off solenoid see if that might be a problem. I know when everything is running correctly, unplug the fuel shut off and it kills it quick. I love 6.5's lol

Removing the shut off plunger is a good start, but the problem could be a bad connection somewhere or a chaffed wire shorting. Being intermittent makes it difficult to track. Also try disconnecting the CPS, when it is causing the problem, it could be failing.

I noticed this thing will puff out a little white smoke on start up, on what I consider a warm morning about 65*F. Do you think this is normal or do I have a injector bleeding off? I have those marine injectors in it, but 1 set of new stock injectors and a really good used set. After new harness and PMD thought my problems were solved. I do know last time it did this, if I either messed around with the IP to extension harness harness, it would start and run including hooking PMD up next to IP. I am considering pulling the IP and replacing it with a NAPA reman., they have a 3 yr warranty (Surprised me!), and installing the new set of stock injectors. Could my tune maybe be a problem? I have 3 different chips and another pcm.

New injectors, new injection pump....problem solved. Runs extremely well, now to get the mpg up. 11.39 mpg, not good.

If you drive a lot in the city or hill country, your MPG will be low because of the vehicle weight, my suburban and pickup get 16 to 17 mpg on flat highway.
