Default 180 thermostat

If my engine runs better when its cooler, then why bother with a 180? Why not run it open?

It does not run better cold, and cold engine wears out fast.

Yep, the engine runs better, when its COOLER but it runs like crap and wears out fast when it runs TOO COLD !

So anything BELOW 150~160F is COLD ! And the engine temp NOT only depends on the water temp. The OIL TEMP is much more important if an engine is fully warmed up or not. So the water is hot, but the oil needs much longer to warm up. Until the oil temp is below 180F , the engine IS COLD !

Default ...if by...

..."running it open" you mean with NO t*stat...you'll have NO water flow...6.5s' have a weirstat...two{2} port seals...when stat is "closed" coolant circulates in block...when stat is"open" coolant circulates between radiator and engine...coolant in 6.5 NEVER stops moving...jd
